Inspired by true events that happened in the 90s in a remote village in Algeria, OF GODS AND MEN (2010, France) deals primarily with the crisis in faith when a group of French Christian monks, living in harmony amongst Muslims are required to take a call on whether to leave their monastery in the face of Islamist threats and go back to France.
Set during the Algerian Civil War (1991-2002) that raged between the Algerian government and various radical groups that killed people who were perceived as deviating from Quranic laws, this film proceeds with a languid pace that is occasionally broken by unexpected violence.Beautifully shot, OF GODS AND MEN (2010, France) by Xavier Beauvois is streaming on Prime Video.
